This is now the new reality of higher education

Advanced management training Europe takes form, and some schools to hone their weapons. This is the case of EM Lyon, who intend to be one of the first players. The Group has indeed just to create a consortium with two other institutions, Aston Business School, Birmingham and Munich Management School (LMU) to launch an integrated program in two years, the "European Master in Management" (EMM), which will allow a triple degree. The official start will take place at the next re-entry.

"It is a highly innovative program, which will be the first truly European master." It is based on a genuine European vision for the management, said Patrick Molle, Director General of EM Lyon. We are convinced that the Declaration of Bologna will soon enter the facts, and that she will change in depth the European landscape of higher education. Holders of a diploma of bachelor level will be more and more mobile. They will travel from one country to another, but also between the different disciplines. For their part, companies becoming more and more, their recruitment. This is now the new reality of higher education. It is to take the lead. This is why we have designed this program, which integrates three European visions of the business.

Visiting professors

Open to holders of a Bachelor's degree or licence (level bac 3 or bac 4) from different disciplines, the MS is along the lines of the LMD (licence-master-doctorate) system. The first year of the new curriculum will be devoted to the study of the fundamentals of management. Objective: to provide students "the key for optimal understanding of the complexity of European and world markets". The second year, students will follow a specialization, the choice in marketing in Birmingham, in Council and strategy in Munich, or finance company on the campus of EM Lyon. They will have different areas of excellence of each school. For the next three years, the program will begin at Lyon. A rota system is planned for the suite.

But the main innovation of the MS lies in the design of education. Contrary to a common practice in Exchange programs, courses have been developed in common and will be delivered by teachers of three institutions, which will move to the opportunity of one campus to another. "It does not teach corporate finance, for example, in the same way in France, Germany and England, explains Patrice Houdayer, program director EM Lyon high school.". That is why, over the past year, we co-developed a series of courses. For each of them, at least one representative of each of the three partners has participated in its design. This work of synthesis of different approaches to the management allows us to offer as a really triculturelle vision. Nothing to do with the declination of a same program on different campuses.

Up to now, only the ESCP-EAP proposed a European curriculum integrated with its European Track, which consists of three years in three different countries, and its device multi-campus (Berlin, London, Madrid, Turin and Paris). All leading, is also a triple degree.

The curriculum of the MS will be completed by the writing of a thesis and a course of education. Participants will benefit from further support continuous and individualized, especially to help them refine their project. With the menu, including round tables devoted to a trade and meetings with professionals. Thus, in finance, participants can exchange with traders, "sales managers" or administrative and financial managers.

In addition, each of the three institutions is "common pot" its corporate partners, its network of alumni and faculty. The "advisory board" will be also composed of representatives of each country. Service career, he would build on a community of 30,000 graduates. "We chose to partner with partners like us in areas of strong economic development, says Patrice Houdayer." But the MS opens its participants of a global business network.

An international background

The launch of the "European master" comes at a time where the "M" level, long eclipsed on the Continent by the MBA, there is increased interest as evidenced by the recent ranking launched year last by "Financial Times" ("Les Echos" of September 11). Three schools partners hear and meet the demand of a growing number of companies for graduates who have followed a roaming curriculum, several countries. "This program will be very useful for French companies who need to recruit international profiles for their subsidiaries abroad, ensures Nicolas Job, Member of advisory board".

Ms and partner of Ernst & Young. They will thus find graduates who have made a part of their studies in France, and who will be accustomed to our cultural specificities. Not to mention that our companies recruit more in addition to graduates with a true international background. "For John Saunders, Director of Aston Business School,"this program will train managers multicultural businesses need."

A system of scholarships

To start, the three partners expect to a promotion of 40-60 participants, before climbing to 90 or 100 students. The MS should benefit from an intensive recruitment campaign, about fifty fairs and international forums. The fees, be they of 10,000 euros per year for students Europeans and 15,000 euros for others. Rates significantly lower than those that are commonly performed in Britain, but above that of the Germany, where the studies are almost free. A system of scholarships but to alleviate the note for some candidates of value. The three partners were able to converge their tariff policies. This is already a first sign.
