Heavily sentenced late 2005 by the competition Council to be heard and thus reduced competition on the French market for the mobile, Orange, SFR and Bouygues Telecom should cheer the latest study by Omsyc cabinet in both hands. It compares the competitive position of the mobile market in eleven European countries. 14 Put forward indicators, the France gets eight notes above average and is therefore at a "very honourable" place, in fourth position behind United Kingdom (graphic read).
• Prices. Comparison of rates between countries is always difficult, because the practices are different for grant phones or e-mail free of charge. The Omsyc compares the price per minute to end 2004. According to calculations by the firm, the average price per minute for outgoing calls is in France to 19 Eurocent (excluding taxes), against 22 cents on average. For incoming calls, the price is however slightly higher (16 cents per minute in France, against 14 cents on average). "Are reported to contrary wisdom, France operators do practise not exorbitant rates, and would be even more competitive that the average of European countries, advance cabinet." Like the Finland, the French market is very oriented on the packages, which boosts consumption and delivers prices downward. The performance is all the more significant that in France, the terminals are subsidized contrary to the rules in force on the Finnish market. "Theoretically, if the operator is subsidizing the terminal, it must to catch up by offering higher prices per minute.

• Use. With a proportion of calls from the mobile representing 41 of the total outgoing traffic (fixed and mobile), the France ranks among the three best students. This good performance goes hand in hand with trafficking voices among the highest of the panel. With 144 minutes of outgoing calls per month and per capita, the France is far above average (98 minutes). However, if the French mounting calls, they have little recourse to the SMS. With 21 short messages per month and per client, the France is located in the eighth, well below the average (28 SMS). 16 Cents per SMS, it is true, the French price is higher than the average of other countries (14 cents excluding tax).
• Concentration. The Herfindahl-Hirschmann index, used by Brussels to measure the concentration of the market, shows that the more concentrated market is the Finland, followed by the Portugal and the France. But, disregarding the number of operators by country, this same index retired instead allows "to confirm that these countries have market structures more competitive than the average for the sector", judge the Omsyc.
• Penetration. On this test, measured by the number of active SIM cards, the rest Hexagon bad student, with 80 of the population equipped to end March 2006. Another flat on the French market, the weakness of the MVNO. According to figures from the regulator (Arcep), these virtual mobile operators accounted for only 0.91 of mobile customers in late March France Park. In his study, the Omsyc notes that the unique MVNO of Netherlands has 3 of market share, that of the Austria 2 and 1 Germany.
